The USA entered the game very well. The Poles were pushing hard but the Americans waited for their deadly breakaways. In one of their first opportunities the Americans managed to score. Zimmerman proceeded on the right wing and managed to beat Strazinski. The Polish pressure continued, but tight American defence did not let the Poles get into big chances. The Poles were only shooting from a distance and these shots were reliably saved by excellent Frank. He allowed the first goal in the 19th minute when Damian Girys converted a nice cross.
