OSTRAVA – corporate town in the Czech Republic

Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic and the administrative center of the Moravian-Silesian Region and of the Municipality with Extended Competence. It is located at the confluence of the Ostravice, Oder and Opava rivers. Its history and growth have been largely affected by exploitation and further usage of the high quality black coal deposits discovered in the locality, giving the town a look of an industrial city and a nickname of the “steel heart of the republic” (Czech: ocelové srdce republiky) during the communist era of Czechoslovakia. Many of the heavy industry companies are being closed down or transformed nowadays.

PRAGUE – capital city of the Czech Republic

Prague (Czech: Praha) is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Situated on the Vltava river in central Bohemia, it is home to approximately 1.2 million people. (It can be derived from jobs statistics, however, that an additional 300,000 work there without having registered as residents.) Nicknames for Prague have included "city of a hundred spires" and "the golden city". Since 1992, the historic center of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. According to Guinness World Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world.

Organizers of the 2008 WFC presented the championship in Ostrava

Floorball World Championship which will take place in the Czech Republic in December enjoys being in the media spotlight. On the press conference in Ostrava, the questions of the media correspondents were answered by the following: Filip Šuman, the President of the Czech Floorball Union, Jan Jirovský, Rolf Franke and Petr Seďa – WFC Organization Committee members, Tomáš Sladký, Czech national team player and international Swiss champion and, last but not least, Mgr. Lubomír Pospíšil, undersecretary of the mayor of Ostrava.
