2nd WFC 1998 - Czech Republic (Prague, Brno)
Two years after the premiere championship, the floorball community gathered at the 2nd WFC in the Czech Republic. For the first time in history, teams playing the B division championship appeared alongside the top eight teams of the elite division.

The Brno Preliminary Group was dominated as expected by the defending champions Sweden, in the key game for the second semi-final spot the Swiss team left the home fans in tears by achieving an easy 5:0 victory over the Czechs who were sent down to the 5th place placement game only. The second group was won by Finland, being a bit surprisingly accompanied by Denmark on their way to medal games. As the Swedish defending world champions crushed down Denmark 11:2 in Prague´s Eden hockey arena, the second semi-final ended up in a giant surprise. Finland, being clear favourites, has not achieved more than a 4:4 draw against the underestimated Swiss, so the second semi-final must have been decided in a shoot-out. The Swiss keeper Mark Wolf has become the hero of the day as he erased the Finnish stars and sent his team sensationally to the final. And even if Switzerland was able to keep up for two periods during the gold medal game, the Swedish have stepped on the gas during the final period and could celebrate the second world title after winning the game 10:3. The bronze was a cure for the Finns after their semi-final failure as they won 4:1 over Denmark. The tournament stats confirm the clear rule of the Swedish over the rest of the teams – all four best scorers of the tournament were from Sweden Magnus Augustsson (10 goals), Niklas Jihde (10 goals on his first championship), Michael Östlund a Martin Olofsson (9). Martin Olofsson was also voted the tournament MVP. On the contrary, for the Czech team the championship was a huge disappointment which ended by the unlucky defeat by Norway in the placement game for the 5th place.
