Czech Journalists Support the WFC in Offices and on the Field
Not only by TV and radio reports, articles and photos in newspapers, magazines and on the Internet do Czech floorball journalists support the forthcoming World Floorball Championship 2008 throughout the whole year. Since the spring of 2008 editors of prominent Czech media regularly participate as active players in tournaments of the Media Floorball League 2008 that was established this year solely to support the World Floorball Championship taking place in the Czech Republic this December.

The first tournament starting this new tradition took place in April 2008 already in Prague-Chodov sports hall and a total of six teams of journalists participated in it. Physical demands as well as beauty of floorball were personally experienced by commentators, editors and technicians from the Czech TV, which is the main broadcaster of the WFC 2008; employees from the main media partner of the WFC – Deník Sport; employees from the most read Czech serious newspaper – MF DNES; players from offices of Deník newspaper, which is published in regional versions all over the Czech Republic; representatives of the Czech Internet website Sport.cz; and last but not least representatives of the general sponsor of Czech floorball – Fortuna betting company.

On the field the media floorball players tried their best and did not at all fall behind the professional players of this sport they often practise during their editorial work. The final game between the Czech TV and MF DNES then resembled an actual competitive floorball match. An exciting game full of goals ended up in a close victory by the team of Czech TV, who celebrated the first triumph in the Media Floorball League and finished on the podium in the second tournament in the Prague sports complex Hamr Braník as well. This time the TV employees took the second position only, their new rival from MF DNES took the third, and the victory was surprisingly taken by the new team called Media Mix mostly consisting of Czech radio commentators.

After the final tournament of the first phase that will take place at the beginning of December in the sports hall of Tatran Střešovice, the Media Floorball League, as all the other floorball competitions in the Czech Republic, will have a two-week break, and sports journalists will move to Ostrava and Prague to report in detail about the 7th World Floorball Championship 2008 in the Czech Republic. Nevertheless, only a week after the championship they will again meet for the final play-off phase tournament that will conclude the first year of the Media Floorball League 2008. And based on responses from all tournament participants it seems that the regular floorball competition of Czech floorball journalists will find its permanent place in the schedules for the years to come as well, and one day we might even wait to see a World Floorball Championship of journalists…
